The New Forest Book Club Meeting 22.06.22 - Forest Lodge (1st meeting)

Following Points Agreed:


Club Name: The New Forest Book Club


Theme of Club:

  • based around titles which have been adapted into movies or TV shows

  • each month the classification of the book title will change so that we cover as large a range as possible and hopefully expand our reading habits to include all types of literature for all members

  • the monthly themes were decided as follows with the order being picked out of a hat by all members present

    1. MODERN FICTION (July 2022)

    2. PLAYS/CLASSICS

    3. DYSTOPIAN

    4. ROMANCE

    5. HISTORICAL FICTION

    6. CHILDREN

    7. CRIME/THRILLER

    8. URBAN FANTASY

    9. SCIENCE FICTION

    10. BIOGRAPHY / AUTOBIOGRAPHY

    11. FANTASY

    12. THRILLER/HORROR

Book Choice:

  • to be decided upon by consensus the month prior to discussion and adaptation viewing

  • all members can submit choices for consideration with the decision being made through random selection (i.e.picking out of a hat)

  • Book choice for July 2022 between the following titles

    • "Big Little Lies" by Liane Moriarty

    • "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng

    • "A Simple Favour" by Darcey Bell

    • "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens

Preparation for Discussion:

  1. reading the chosen book

  2. pick a favourite quote

  3. underlying themes & characters


Meeting Times & Places:

  • Book Discussion: to take place once a month on a Wednesday around the 15th (depending on the month) at one of the venues of the New Forest Collection

  • Viewing & Discussion: to take place on the Friday evening directly following the book discussion event at the home of Rasha Shammas (or any other to be agreed upon members home or venue - to be decided as a group)


Expenses:

  • Each member to buy (or borrow) the elected book of the month — any leftover copies that wish to donated to be kept at Forest Lodge as a collection “donated by the New Forest Book Club”

  • Upon meeting, all food and drink will be paid for “dutch” i.e. equally between members

  • Suggestions for buying the books: eFormat (kindle / apple books), paperback or hardback purchased new or second hand through Amazon, other online second hand book stores or charity shops)

  • Admission into this group is free upon invitation from one its members, though word of mouth or through flyers etc

  • Any other expenses to arise (e.g. website / blog registration) to be discussed and approved before hand by the entire group and to be shared equally between members

  • announcement of meetings (and recommendations for non-members? TBD): New Forest Collection GLASSHOUSE
